June 5, 2013: George Bovell joins today's edition of The Morning Swim Show to talk about a recent trip to Uganda that helped raise interest in swimming there, as well as help lower the number of malaria cases in the African country. Bovell, an Olympic medalist from Trinidad and Tobago, struck a friendship with a swimmer from Uganda three years ago, which led to this year’s trip to Uganda, where he and Duje Draganja put on swim clinics in a country that sees a large number of drownings. The two also became very aware of the high number of malaria-related deaths in the country, and participated in forums to help lower the spread of the disease. Bovell was unable to train much during his trip to Uganda, but feels optimistic about the upcoming world championships, where he will be one to watch in the 50 freestyle. He talks about his current visit to Michigan to train with the swimmers there after many months of training alone in his homeland.
