ZUMO Performance of the Week: Kate Douglass Splits 57.8 100 Fly in LCM
This week’s ZUMO Performance of the Week goes to Virginia freshman Kate Douglass for her 57.80 split on Virginia’s 400 medley relay against Auburn on Saturday. The freshman has been on fire for the Cavaliers this fall as she has had her hand in a number of events thus far in the season. Her 57.8 split came in the two-day meet between the Cavs and the Tigers in the long course version of the meet. She also swam a 25.18 in winning the 50 free, setting a new LCM school record.
Douglass also finished second in the 100 free at 55.75, getting second behind Auburn’s Julie Meynen.
In the yards portion of the meet, Douglass won the 100 IM (53.40) and 100 free (48.27).
Kate Douglass has shown she is capable of swimming in any single event and succeeding this season as she is the number one swimmer in Division I in the 200 breast, second nationally in the 200 IM and is fourth in the 100 fly. It is a wide range of events and her versatility has helped Virginia put themselves in contention for their first top four NCAA finish in school history. And with an impressive recruiting class coming up the next two years, Douglass could lead Virginia to a national title in the near future.
Douglass’ best 100 fly in LCM was a 58.4 at the US Open in December when she placed fourth in the final. She is a rising star in the sport of swimming and continues to prove that every time she dives into the pool.
Congrats to Kate Douglass on winning the ZUMO Performance of the Week!
Congratulations Kate! Impressive swims one after another!!
