ZUMO Performance of the Week: Claire Curzan Smashes 100 Fly NAG Record
This week’s ZUMO Performance of the Week goes to Claire Curzan for her performance in the 100 yard butterfly at the 2019 North Carolina High School Girls’ State Swimming and Diving 4A State Championships.
Curzan had an absolutely lights out swim the 100 fly last friday, hitting the wall in 51.60 to break the 13-14 National Age Group (NAG) record of 51.73 that was set by Regan Smith back in 2016. Her time also broke Alyssa Marsh’s North Carolina State record of 53.23.
Curzan made a big drop in this event at Winter Juniors in December, breaking 52 for the first time with a 51.92 while representing the TAC Titans. Her previous best had been a 52.48 from February of 2018, and she already owns the NAG records for 11-12 year olds for yards in the 50 and 100 fly and the 13-14 record as part of the 200 medley relay.
Just a freshman at Cardinal Gibbons, Curzan was less than one-tenth of a second away from breaking the National Independent High School record held by Katie McLaughlin (51.51). But with three more years to take down that record, Curzan is setting herself up to continue adding her name to the record books.
Congratulations to Claire Curzan on earning ZUMO’s Performance of the Week!
