Zoe Barclay, Maja Palmroos Set to Join Denison University’s Class of 2025
NEW COMMITS: Denison University has scored their first pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season from Dayton, Ohio native Zoe Barclay and Maja Palmroos of San Diego, Calif.
Under head coach Gregg Parini, the Big Red have clinched six NCAA Division III National Championship titles and 16 national runner-up finishes.
ZOE BARCLAY
Regarding her commitment she said:
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Denison University! I want to thank my coaches, friends, and family for supporting me through this process!! #gobigred !!❤️”
A strong breaststroker and IMer, Barclay does her club swimming with Dayton Raiders and recorded eight best times at the MAKO Holiday Spirit Invite in December where she earned bronze in the 200 breast. Last summer, she notched a best time at Cleveland Sectionals.
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 30.95
- 100 breast – 1:05.35
- 200 breast – 2:22.97
Also competing for Centerville High School, Barclay raced the 100 breast at the Ohio State Championships during her junior year. She also placed fourth in the 100 breast and 15th in the 200 IM at the SW District Meet in 2020 while taking 13th and 23rd, respectively, in those events in 2019.
MAJA PALMROOS
Regarding her commitment she said:

Primarily a sprint butterflyer and freestyler, Palmroos swims year-round with Team Elite and most recently placed 20th in the 100 fly at Carlsbad Sectionals. She registered four top-10 finishes at San Diego Age Groups in December and raced four events at Mount Hood Futures last long course season.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 24.42
- 100 free – 53.66
- 50 fly – 25.69
- 100 fly – 55.74
A current senior at Del Norte High School, Palmroos is a four-time CIF San Diego Section 2 Championship finalist. She placed sixth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 50 free as a sophomore while taking seventh and 12th, respectively, in those events during her rookie campaign.
