Zhang Yufei Sets 56.20 Asian Games 100 Fly Record: Hwang Sunwoo Leads Way In 200 Free Prelims
The fourth day of the pool programme at the Asian Games dawned with China sitting atop the medal table after winning all but five golds on offer in Hangzhou, China.
China has 15 golds, 13 silvers and four bronze medals with Korea second (two gold, two silver and five bronze) ahead of Hong Kong (2, 1, 2) and Japan (1, 4, 9).
Here’s how the fourth morning of prelims unfolded at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Aquatic Sports Arena.
Women’s 100m Butterfly
Zhang Yufei got the heat off to a speedy start with an Asian Games record of 56.20.
The Chinese swimmer – winner of the 200 fly – lowered Rikako Ikee‘s previous standard of 56.30 set in Jakarta five years ago.
Behind her came Ai Soma of Japan (57.92) and Wang Yichun (58.09).
Men’s 100m Butterfly
Wang Changhao topped the field in 51.55, hours after swimming the fly leg as China rattled the men’s medley relay world record in a new Asian mark.
Japan’s Katsuhiro Matsumoto (51.88) and Adilbelk Mussin (51.98) of Kazakhstan were the other men inside 52.
Women’s 100m Backstroke
Wang Xueer was the only woman inside 1:01 in 1:00.87 ahead of Japan’s Miki Takahashi and Korea’s Lee Eunji of Korea who both clocked 1:01.29.
Men’s 200m Freestyle
Hwang Sunwoo topped the field in 1:47.08 with the Korean looking to claim his first Asian Games title, two months after claiming his second world medal in as many years over four lengths at the World Championships.
Japan’s Mano Hidenari was second through in 1:47.79 with Lee Hojoon the second Korean progressing in 1:48.13.
Women’s 100m Breaststroke
Satomi Suzuki was well clear at the head of the field as she looks to defend her 2018 title, going 1:06.49.
Women’s 400m Individual Medley
Yu Yiting was the only Chinese woman to appear in this event but she managed to top the seeds in 4:44.25.
Ageha Tanigawa of Japan was the only woman within three seconds of Yu, going 4:44.91.
4x100m Mixed Medley Relay
China led the way in 3:45.67 ahead of Japan (3:47.94) and Korea (3:51.03).
