Yu Zhou of Minnesota won the 3m diving event ahead of Miami, Ohio’s Pei Lin. Zhou scored 392.75 ahead of Lin’s 383.50. Zhou last won the event in 2015. Zhou out dove a strong field that contained Olympian Kassidy Cook of Stanford and defending champ Sharae Zheng of Nevada.
This is Minnesota’s third win in the event after Zhou won in 2015 and Kelci Bryant won in 2010. The Golden Gophers also picked up some very valuable points in that event with three A-finalists scoring, giving them 48 points. Coach Wenbo Chen was the former USA national team diving coach from 2005-2009 so it is no surprise his expertise is showing on the boards in Minneapolis.
Stanford’s Cook (372.30), Minnesota’s Lexi Tenebaum (362.00), UCLA’s Maria Polyakova (351.80), Minnesota’s Sarah Bacon (347.25), Nevada’s Zheng (341.75) and Northwestern’s Olivia Rosendahl (314.70) also competed in the 3m final.
