Youssef and Marwan El Kamash Break Egyptian Records in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE – Three Egyptian national records fell over the weekend at the Arena Pro Swim Series at Charlotte, at the hands of brothers Marwan and Youssef El Kamash.
Marwan El Kamash, a junior at the University of South Carolina, set two new national records in the men’s 200m and 400m free. He finished third in the final of the 200m free in 1:47.73, and later duplicated that feat with a third place showing of 3:50.34 in the 400m free. Fellow countryman Ahmed Akaram also swam under the previous record in the 400m free, taking fourth in 3:50.61. Both swimmers cleared the FINA A cuts in their respective events to qualify for this summer’s FINA World Championships.
El Kamash’s brother, Youssef, added a third national record in the men’s 100m breast, posting a 1:02.62 to finish 10th in finals. Youssef and twin brother Mazen both swim collegiately for Grand Canyon University.
