York YMCA’s Claire O’Neill Gives Seton Hall University First 2021 Verbal Commitment
NEW COMMIT: Seton Hall University has scored their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Mount Joy, Pa. native Claire O’Neill who will suit up for the Pirates as a member of the class of 2025.
She told Swimming World:
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Seton Hall University. A huge thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for the endless support. Go Pirates!! ☠️ #HALLin”
Primarily an IMer with a strong fly and back, O’Neill does her club swimming with York YMCA and earned a best time at YMCA Short Course Nationals in April 2019. Last summer, she had four top-16 finishes at the NBAC Mid-Summer Classic before going on to race six events at YMCA Long Course Nationals.
Her best times include:
- 200 IM – 2:09.10
- 400 IM – 4:33.08
- 100 fly – 57.96
- 200 fly – 2:06.04
- 100 back – 58.13
Also competing for Donegal High School, O’Neill is a three-time finalist at the Pennsylvania AA State Championships, taking 13th in the 200 IM and 15th in the 500 free in 2019. She was the 200 IM runner-up and took fourth in the 100 back as a junior while taking second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 500 free during her sophomore season at the Pennsylvania 03 Girls AA Championships.
O’Neill will make a big impact when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2021. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 fly as well as the B-final of the 100 back and 400 IM at the 2020 Big East Championships where Seton Hall finished fourth overall in the team standings.
