YMCA National Runner-Up Olivia Harper Selects Tennessee; Will Become a Lady Vol in 2020
NEW COMMIT: The University of Tennessee has secured a verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Olivia Harper of Bath, Maine.
Primarily a backstroker, Harper does her club swimming with Bath YMCA and owns four Summer Juniors standards. She capped off a successful long course season by collecting four silver medals in the 50m fly, 50m back, 100m back, and 200m back at YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer. Last winter, she finished 18th in the 100 back at Winter Nationals before going on to place second in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 back at YMCA SCY Nationals. A current senior at Morse High School, Harper has earned NISCA All-American honors for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to The University of Tennessee! I want to thank my coaches, family, and friends for all the support along the way! Go Lady Vols!”
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 53.53
- 200 back – 1:56.87
- 200 IM – 2:01.95
- 50 free – 23.33
- 100 free – 51.36
- 100 fly – 55.84
The Lady Vols have done a stellar job building their 2024 recruiting class: Berit Quass, Aly Breslin, Nicola Lane, Jordan Aurnou-Rhees, Annie Rimmer, Margaret Marando, Katie Yule, and Elle Caldow will join Harper in Knoxville at the start of the 2020-21 season. Harper would’ve placed in the C-final of the 100 back at the 2019 SEC Championships, and is just shy of scoring range in the 200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM.
