YMCA National Finalist Owen Nye Selects Villanova
NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Owen Nye of Burlington, North Carolina, has pledged his verbal commitment to Villanova University beginning in Fall 2024.
He told Swimming World:
“I chose Villanova University to continue my academic and swimming careers because I know it’s a place where I can remain committed to excellence in both. Thank you to God, my family, coaches, and friends for making this possible. Go Wildcats! #novanation \V/”
Nye does his club swimming with Greensboro YMCA and was a four-time finalist at YMCA Nationals in April, highlighted by a seventh place finish in the mile. He was also part of the 4×200 free relay that earned silver in 2022.
He also competed in the 7.5k at the 2023 Open Water Junior Nationals. In 2022, he swept the 500/1000/1650 free at the YOTA Capital Classic.
His best times include:
- 500 free – 4:29.80
- 1000 free – 9:25.42
- 1650 free – 15:47.52
A rising senior at Burlington Christian Academy, Nye is a three-time NCISAA DIII state champion: 500 free in 2022, and the 200/500 free in 2023. He’s the school record holder in all eight individual events, and all three relays.
