YMCA National Finalist Mitch Curlee Commits to In-State UNCW
NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina – Wilmington has gained a new in-state commitment for this upcoming fall from Raleigh, N.C. native Mitch Curlee.
Incredibly versatile, Curlee does his club swimming with the YMCA of the Triangle Area and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 200 fly. He most recently placed 14th in the 200 fly at YMCA Nationals after placing ninth in that event with six other top-20 finishes at the ISCA Summer Senior Championships this past summer. Also competing for Green Hope High School, Curlee finished sixth in the 50 free and 15th in the 100 free at the North Carolina 4A State Championships during his junior season and finished seventh in the 200 IM as a senior.
He told Swimming World:
“UNCW is a perfect fit academically and athletically. The prestigious school has a great group of guys and the best coaching staff. I am extremely excited to become a seahawk In the fall.”
His best times include:
- 100 fly – 50.47
- 200 fly – 1:51.49
- 100 back – 51.46
- 100 breast – 58.61
- 200 breast – 2:08.27
When he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2023, Curlee will add valuable depth to the Seahawks’ lineup. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 back and 200 fly at the 2019 CAA Championships where UNCW finished third overall in the team standings.
