YMCA National Champion John Rusnock Picks Princeton

NEW COMMIT: Princeton University has scored a new verbal commitment* for the 2025-26 season and beyond from John Rusnock of Suffield, Connecticut.

He will join Alex Townsend, Jiarui Xue and Oliver Rowe as a member of the Tigers’s Class of 2029.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am honored and excited to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Princeton University. I would like to thank Coach Mario Francisco Sobrinho from the Farmington Valley YMCA, my coaches and the staff at Suffield Academy, and my teammates. I’d also like to thank my family for their support. Thank you Coach Crispino and Coach Nonnenberg for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get to Princeton to race and learn. Go Tigers!”

Rusnock trains year-round with Farmington Valley YMCA Tsunami and won the 200 fly and 200 IM at YMCA Short Course Nationals back in April, where he also took second in the 400 IM and third in the 100 fly. Last summer, he was a five-time finalist at YMCA Long Course Championships.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:45.94
  • 400 IM – 3:52.03
  • 100 fly – 47.56
  • 200 fly – 1:46.44

A rising senior at Suffield Academy, Rusnock won the 100 fly and 200 IM at the 2024 NEPSAC Division I Championship. He took third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 back at the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championship, too.

Rusnock is also a USA Swimming Scholastic and NISCA All-American.

IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
