YMCA National Bronze Medallist Emma Shaughnessy Sends 2021 Verbal to Indiana
Emma Shaughnessy verbally commits to the Hoosiers.
NEW COMMIT: Indiana University has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Freehold, N.J. native and talented breaststroker Emma Shaughnessy.
She will join Sydney Turner, Brearna Crawford, Kabria Chapman, Elyse Heiser, Anna Peoplowski and Mariah Denigan in Bloomington as a member of the Hoosiers’ class of 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m super excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic careers at Indiana University! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for all of their support throughout this journey. Go Hoosiers!”
A U.S. Open qualifier, Shaughnessy does her club swimming with the Red Bank Aquarockets Y and was the runner-up in the 100 breast and placed sixth in the 200 breast at the EEX Holiday Classic in December. Last summer, she raced to third in the 50m breast and fifth in the 100m breast at YMCA Long Course Nationals.
She also finished 14th in the 100 breast at the YMCA Short Course National Championships in April 2019.
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:02.95
- 200 breast – 2:20.31
- 200 IM – 2:10.19
When she arrives on campus in the fall of 2021, she will add valuable breaststroke depth to the Hoosiers’ loaded lineup. She’ll have two years of overlap with Emily Weiss, the 2020 Big Ten 100 breast runner-up, as well as one year to train with Noelle Peplowski, last year’s conference meet 200 breast silver medallist.
Shaughnessy is entering her senior year at Colts Neck High School.
