YMCA National Bronze Medalist Greta Gidley Verbally Commits to Alabama for 2021

NEW COMMIT: Farmington Hills, Mich. native Greta Gidley announced her verbal commitment to the University of Alabama via CollegeSwimming and will arrive in Tuscaloosa in the fall of 2021.

Gidley, who owns four Winter Juniors standards, swims year-round with Farmington Family YMCA and capped off her long course season with a pair of best times at Junior Nationals. Last winter, she raced three events at Juniors East before going on to earn bronze in the 200 IM and place seventh in the 200 free at YMCA Nationals.

A current junior at Mercy Catholic High School, Gidley is already a four-time Michigan State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed sixth in the 100 free and ninth in the 200 free as a sophomore while finishing fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free during her freshman season.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.24
  • 100 free – 50.31
  • 200 free – 1:48.99
  • 200 IM – 2:00.18

Regarding her commitment, she said:
