YMCA National 200 Breast Champion Mia Sunseri Gives Verbal to Pitt Class of 2025
NEW COMMIT: Two-time Summer Juniors qualifier Mia Sunseri has verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh. The Wheeling, W.V. native will suit up for the Panthers as a member of the class of 2025.
A talented breaststroker and IMer, Sunseri does her club swimming with Wheeling YMCA and most recently earned gold in the 200m breast and bronze in the 400m IM at YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer. Last winter, she recorded two best times at Juniors East before going on to register three top-12 finishes at YMCA SCY Nationals.
Currently a high school junior at Wheeling Park High School, Sunseri is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She has consistently made improvements each season; over the past two years, she has dropped three seconds in the 100 breast, five in the 200 breast, four in the 200 IM, and 13 in the 400 IM.
She told Swimming World:
“I am very excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to Swim at the University of Pittsburgh! Beyond grateful for my family, friends, coaches and teammates for helping me get to where I am today! I cannot wait to be a part of such an amazing team! Hail to Pitt and Go Panthers! #H2P”
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:03.73
- 200 breast – 2:14.70
- 200 IM – 2:05.17
- 400 IM – 4:22.86
Sunseri is Pitt’s first early verbal commitment and she’ll arrive on campus at the start of the 2021-22 season. Even with just under two years of club swimming still to go, she’ll add valuable depth to their breaststroke and IM training groups.
