NEW COMMIT: Georgia Tech has received their second early verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from in-state standout Stephen Jones of Richmond Hill, Ga.

He will join Chris Richardson of Baton Rouge, La. as a member of the Yellow Jackets’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic pursuits at the Georgia Institute of Technology! The rigors that await me at GT will make me a better student and athlete. Thank you to my coaches, teammates, and family for always supporting me. Special thanks to my brother Robby for pushing me to my best, in and out of the pool.  I would also like to thank the coaching staff at GT for giving me this opportunity to join this amazing swim team! Go Yellow Jackets!!”

Jones, who does his club swimming with Savannah Swim Team, is a Junior National qualifier who most recently recorded three best times at Georgia Seniors where he posted four top-10 finishes. He registered a best time at the Toyota U.S. Open in November before going on to take seventh in the 200 fly at the 18&U Winter Championships in December.

In July 2019, Jones won the 200m fly at Georgia LCM Seniors. He owns 15 team records for his club program as well.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 49.60
  • 200 fly – 1:51.18
  • 200 free – 1:42.84
  • 500 free – 4:38.77

Currently a junior at Richmond Hill High School, Jones is a six-time individual Georgia 6A State Championship finalist. He was the runner-up in the 100 fly and took sixth in the 500 free in 2021 while taking first and eighth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.

The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also owns seven high school records.
