Yang Jintong Wins 800 Free at 2015 FINA World Junior Championships
China’s Yang Jintong turned up the heat down the final 100 meters to win the men’s 800-meter free at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.
Trailing Ernest Maksumov of Russia heading into the final 150 meters, Yang turned on the jets to take the win in 7:55.19.
Maksumov, swimming in the final heat of the timed final event, wound up fading to third in a time of 7:57.40 as Spain’s Cesar Castro actually managed to take second with a 7:57.21 from the earlier heats this morning.
Australia’s Joshua Parrish placed fourth in 7:57.43 with Brazil’s Brandonn Almeida (7:59.49) also clearing 8:00 for fifth overall.
Hungary’s Kristof Rasovszky (8:00.76), Mexico’s Ricardo Vargas (8:01.60) and Greece’s Dimitrios Negris (8:04.42) rounded out the top eight in the timed final competition.
