Yale Bulldogs Add Verbals from Lucius Brown, Jack Maketa to Class of 2026
NEW COMMITS: Yale University has scored two new verbal commitments* for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Carlsbad, Calif. native Lucius Brown and Jack Maketa of Perkasie, Pa.
Both talented swimmers will join Finn Henry and Nareg Minassian in New Haven as a member of the Bulldogs’ Class of 2026.
Under head coach Jim Henry, the Bulldogs finished third overall in the team standings at the 2020 Ivy League Championships.
LUCIUS BROWN
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m super honored and grateful to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Yale to further my academic and athletic careers! The world-class education and the awesome connection I had with the coaches were what led me to my decision, and I’m very excited for the future of the swim program. Thanks to all my friends and coaches for the support through the tough times. And thanks most of all to my mom, dad, and brother, there’s no way I could have done it without them!”
A talented sprinter, Brown does his club swimming with Team Elite Stingrays and sprinted to 16th in the 50 free at Carlsbad Sectionals in February 2019 after taking ninth in both the 100 free and 100 back at East LA Sectionals. He also finaled in the 50m free at Mount Hood Futures in August 2019.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.64
- 100 free – 46.69
- 50 back – 24.49
- 100 back – 50.99
Currently a junior at The Bishop’s School, Brown raced the 50 free at the CIF State Championships during his freshman year.
JACK MAKETA
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am extremely excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process to swim and study at Yale University! I would like to thank my parents for their endless support, as well as my coaches, teammates, and friends. This would not have been possible without them. Go Bulldogs !”
Maketa, who trains year-round with Germantown Academy Aquatic Club, finaled in the 200m fly at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Greensboro in November 2019. In August 2019, he grabbed bronze in the 200m fly and 400m free at Eastern Zone Seniors where he also finaled in five other events.
His best times include:
- 100 free – 46.51
- 200 free – 1:40.12
- 500 free – 4:33.36
- 100 fly – 49.75
- 200 fly – 1:48.57
Also competing for Germantown Academy, Maketa is a four-time individual Eastern Interscholastic League Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed ninth in the 100 fly and 17th in the 200 free as a sophomore while taking ninth in the former and 10th in the 200 IM during his freshman season.
