X-Cel Swimming’s Micaela Bernard Lends Verbal to Florida Atlantic
NEW COMMIT: Hightstown, N.J. native Micaela Bernard will head to the Sunshine State next fall after verbally committing to Florida Atlantic University.
Primarily a sprint freestyler, Bernard swims year-round with X-Cel Swimming and most recently placed seventh in the 50m free at the New Jersey LCM Junior Olympics after placing 21st in that event at Rutgers Sectionals. Last winter, she raced three events at Ithaca Sectionals en route to achieving a best time in the 50 free. A current senior at Robbinsville High School, Bernard competed in the 100 free and 200 free at the New Jersey Meet of Champions during both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
She told Swimming World:
“Words cannot describe how thrilled I am to continue my academic and athletic career at Florida Atlantic University. Not only does FAU have great academic programs, a supportive swim team, and a beautiful campus; it also has a wonderful environment that I‘ll be able to call home for the next four years. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teachers who have helped me through this college process. Lastly, I am looking forward to swimming under Coach Lara, Coach Riley, and Coach Alice as well as bonding with my new teammates, as we take the Owls to the next level!”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 24.27
- 100 free – 52.79
- 200 free – 1:54.88
Bernard will add valuable depth to the Owls’ lineup both individually and on relays when she arrives in Boca Raton as a member of the class of 2024. She’ll add her talents to a sprint freestyle training group that’ll be led by Mackenzie Brown and Abby Marshall.
