Wyoming Rounds Up Verbal from Breaststroker Caitlyn Groff of City of Plano Swimmers
NEW COMMIT: The University of Wyoming has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Caitlyn Groff of Plano, Texas.
She will join Sydney Metzler and Katie McPherson as a member of the Pokes’ class of 2025.
She told Swimming World:
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Wyoming! I would like to thank everyone, who has helped me through this process. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and teammates for their non-stop support. Finally, I would like to thank my coaches for helping me become the swimmer and person I am today, in and out of the pool. Here’s to my new journey in life!! Go Pokes!! ?”
A talented breaststroker, Groff swims year-round with City of Plano Swimmers and earned best times in all three breaststroke events at Juniors West in December. Last summer, she placed 15th in the 200m breast at Jenks Sectionals before going on to race that event at Junior Nationals.
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 31.25
- 100 breast – 1:06.37
- 200 breast – 2:18.17
- 200 IM – 2:08.72
- 500 free – 5:05.72
Also competing for The Shelton School, Groff won both the 100 breast and 500 free at the TAPPS North Region Championships as a junior. She also earned gold in the 500 free and bronze in the 100 breast at the TAPPS DII State Championships during her sophomore season.
At the 2020 Mountain West Championships, Wyoming finished third overall in the team standings under head coach David Denniston.
