Wyoming Rounds Up First 2020 Verbal from Edina Swim Club’s Andrew Columbus
NEW COMMIT: The University of Wyoming has earned their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Edina, Minn. native and current high school junior Andrew Columbus.
Columbus does his club swimming with Edina Swim Club and most recently competed at NCSAs where he recorded a pair of lifetime bests. He won the mile and took second in the 500/1000 free as well as the 200 fly and 400 IM at the Schroeder YMCA meet in February. This past summer, he was the 1500m free runner-up with five additional top-5 finishes at the Minnesota LCM Senior Championships.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m very humbled and proud to announce my verbal commitment to study, grow, and swim at the University of Wyoming! I’d like to thank everyone who’s helped me progress over the past 8 years. The coaching staff has built a culture like none other, and I hope our 2024 recruiting class matches the outstanding class of 2023. Can’t wait to spend 4 years at 7220 feet! #GoPokes #OneWyoming”
His best times include:
- 500 free – 4:40.29
- 1000 free – 9:32.44
- 1650 free – 15:59.01
- 200 fly – 1:52.47
- 400 IM – 4:06.15
When he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024, Columbus will add valuable depth to their distance freestyle group. His best mile time would’ve placed in the top-15 at the 2019 Western Athletic Conference Championships where Wyoming finished third overall in the team standings.
