World Junior Team Member Patrick Callan Verbals To Michigan
World Junior team member Patrick Callan gave his verbal commitment to the University of Michigan late Monday night. Callan hails from the Trident Aquatic Club in Oklahoma and will be moving up north to Ann Arbor where he will swim for Mike Bottom, Josh White and company at Michigan.
Callan is a middle distance and distance freestyler with a 1:34.06 SCY 200 free from Speedo Sectionals this past spring. Callan also has a 4:14.66 500 along with a 14:55.63 in the 1650. His 500 would have put him 20th at NCAA’s just behind current Michigan senior PJ Ransford, not too far off of the 4:14.09 it took to get a second swim. In the mile, Callan would have faired similarly as he would have been 21st with his best time. His 200 best time would have also put him 21st.
Long course wise, Callan is a potential Olympic relay member as he placed fourth at World Juniors this past summer in the 200 free with a 1:47.61. He also led off the silver medal winning 4×200 free relay with a 1:47.33. His 400 time is a 3:51.66 from the Arena Pro Swim Series in Atlanta this year. His 800 and 1500 best times are from 2014 from before he was in high school so there should be room for improvement there.
Callan’s times are sure to improve at Michigan as he will be swimming with legendary distance coach Josh White, who guided Connor Jaeger to two Olympic finals in the 1500. Callan will be a freshman when Felix Auboeck is a junior, so he will be in good company in terms of training.
