LAUSANNE, Switzerland, March 11. CONFORMING rumors over the last several days, FINA — swimming's international governing body — canceled the second stop on the Open Water World Cup tour, scheduled to be held in Dubai on Friday, March 14. T
The reason was the likelihood of war in Iraq in the near future and the risk of terrorism or, as FINA put it, the "present world political situation."
Meets scheduled for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on March 20 and Hurghada, Egypt on March 27 are still scheduled to take place, though the outbreak of war would almnost certainly lead to their cancelation as well.
