World Championships: Lilly King Claims Eighth Spot Into 100m Breaststroke Final; Anna Elendt Leads The Way
Lilly King‘s bid for an historic third 100m breaststroke is still on after she squeezed into the final in eighth place at the World Championships in Budapest.
Leisel Jones, Luo Xuejuan and Rebecca Soni – as well as King – have all won the title twice and the American booked her spot in Monday’s decider in 1:06.40.
Anna Elendt led the field in 1:05.62 ahead of Benedetta Pilato (1:05.88) and Tang Qianting (1:05.97) with former Olympic and world champion Ruta Meilutyte also through on 1:06.04.
However, Annie Lazor – the Tokyo 200 breast bronze medallist – was DQd because of non-simultaneous leg movement or alternating movement. Lazor’s disqualification actually is the reason King moved up from ninth and is still alive for a three-peat.
