World Championships: Kyle Chalmers Will Not Compete In The 50 Fly In Budapest
Kyle Chalmers will not compete in the 50m butterfly at the World Championships which get under way on Saturday in Budapest.
The Rio 2016 100 free champion won the one-length fly at the Australian Championships last month and also placed second in the 100m event.
He later reversed his decision to bypass worlds in favouring of competing solely at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, next month.
Chalmers’ decision sparked headlines because it meant Cody Simpson will not race in Budapest.
Pop star Simpson finished third in the 100 butterfly, behind Matt Temple and Chalmers, and appeared set to be selected for Budapest.
Chalmers earned his spot on the team for Hungary but will not go in the 50 fly with the heats and semis being contested on the first day at the Duna Arena.
He will though compete in the 100 fly.
