Rising Star Lani Pallister Wins Back-To-Back Gold With A Convincing 800m freestyle Win

Australia’s Lani Pallister has emerged as one of the brightest new stars of world swimming, winning her second gold medal in two nights at the Fina World Short Course Championships at the Melbourne Sports And Aquatic Centre.

The 20-year-old from the Gold Coast delivered an all-the way victory in the 800 metres freestyle in a personal best time and Australian record of 8:04.07.

It followed Lani Pallister’s gold medal in the 400m freestyle on the opening night – making her only the fifth woman to win the 400-800m double at a World Short Course Championship meet.

And the first Australian gold medallist over the 800 metres since 15-year-old Natasha Bowron in Gothenburg in 1997.

Silver went to New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather, who was second to Pallister in the 400m, with Japan’s Miyu Namba taking bronze. Fairweather clocking 8:10.41 and Namba 8:12.98.
