The 20-year-old from the Gold Coast delivered an all-the way victory in the 800 metres freestyle in a personal best time and Australian record of 8:04.07. It followed Lani Pallister’s gold medal in the 400m freestyle on the opening night – making her only the fifth woman to win the 400-800m double at a World Short Course Championship meet. And the first Australian gold medallist over the 800 metres since 15-year-old Natasha Bowron in Gothenburg in 1997. Silver went to New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather, who was second to Pallister in the 400m, with Japan’s Miyu Namba taking bronze. Fairweather clocking 8:10.41 and Namba 8:12.98.
