World Championships: Chad Le Clos Pulls Out Of Budapest With ‘Medical Condition’

Four-time Olympic medalist Chad Le Clos has withdrawn from the World Championships in Budapest with a medical condition. The South African, winner of four world titles, did not appear for the 200 butterfly prelims on Monday morning, an event in which he won Olympic gold at London 2012.

Swimming World learned he felt unwell before the heats which were headed by Olympic champion Kristof Milak.

Now, the 30-year-old has withdrawn from the meet at the Duna Arena where he won 200 fly gold in 2017.

Le Clos didn’t appear in the 50 or 200 and he will now miss the 100 fly.

Jace Naidoo, president of Swimming South Africa, said:

“The (team) manager has confirmed that he (Le Clos) has a medical (condition) and has withdrawn from all his events.”

It’s unclear what this means for Commonwealth Games with Le Clos scheduled to represent South Africa in Birmingham with the pool program starting on July 28.
