Four-time Olympic medallist Chad Le Clos withdrew from the World Championships after struggling to recover from multiple bouts of bronchitis.

The South African, who won 200 fly gold at London 2012, didn’t appear for the 200 fly prelims at the Duna Arena on Monday morning.

It was subsequently confirmed that he’d pulled out of the meet in Budapest with a ‘medical condition’.

Now the four-time world champion has revealed he’s had the lung condition and is turning his attention to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where he’ll represent South Africa.

He posted to social media, saying:

“Gutted ? couldn’t finish my world champions this year, been struggling with my breathing these last 3 weeks since having multiple stints of bronchitis. I’m all good in myself and all my focus will be towards commonwealth games in ??????? thank you to the ?? fans, as always amazing place to be ❤️ hoping to back soon ? thanks for all the support”
