Arno Kamminga Heads 100 Breaststroke; Nic Fink & Michael Andrew Also Go 58
With Adam Peaty missing through injury, there will be a new champion in the men’s 100m breaststroke for the first time since 2013.
Peaty won the title in 2015, 2017 and 2019 setting a world record of 56.88 in the semis in Gwangju three years ago.
Arno Kamminga won Olympic silver behind the Briton last year and is the only man other than Peaty to have gone inside 58secs with a PB of 57.80 in Tokyo.
Nicolo Martinenghi – Olympic bronze medallist – led the way in heat five in 59.06 ahead of Yan Zibei (59.83).
Michael Andrew went 58.96 in the following prelim before Kamminga went in the final heat, coming past Nic Fink to lead the way into Saturday evening’s semis in 58.69.
Kamminga, Fink – in 58.81 – and Andrew were the three to go sub-59 followed by Martinenghi.
