World Aquatics Announces Dates for 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore

World Aquatics on Friday announced the dates for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, which will run from July 11-Aug. 3.

The 22nd edition of the world championships will be hosted by Singapore Aquatics and Sport Singapore, within the nation’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. Over more than three weeks, 76 medals will be distributed in swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water and high diving. The event is expected to bring more than 2,500 athletes from 210 nations.

An exact schedule of events will be published at a later date.

Singapore was announced as the host in early 2023. The event has originally been scheduled for Kazan, Russia, before being stripped from that nation after its invasion of Ukraine.

Singapore has hosted multiple World Cup events through the years in addition to the 2015 World Junior Swimming Championships and the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games. The 2025 World Championships includes the World Aquatics Masters Championships, will which follow the main event.

It’ll be the third straight World Championships held in Asia, following the 2023 event in Fukuoka, Japan, and the 2024 Worlds in Doha, Qatar, under the leadership of the governing body’s first Asian president.

“Today marks a milestone for the highly anticipated World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025,” President Husain Al-Musallam said in a press release. “We couldn’t be more thrilled for Singapore to hold our premier event. Singapore’s stellar track record in event organisation, along with its world-class facilities and unwavering dedication to aquatic sports at all levels, is sure to create an unparalleled experience for our athletes. With this announcement and following up on two previous World Aquatics Championships in Asia – Fukuoka in 2023 and Doha in 2024 – the continent’s steadfast commitment and exceptional hosting abilities are on full display, ready to welcome the world’s finest aquatic athletes.”

“With Singapore’s proud tradition in aquatic sports, our community is thrilled to host the world’s best athletes in July and early August 2025,” Singapore Aquatics president Mark Chay said. “Singapore offers world-class facilities, a proven track record of hosting high-quality events, and a passion for aquatic sports.”
