Rio2016 has released the psych sheets for the swimming events at the 2016 Olympic Games. The first heat will dive in at 1PM local time on Saturday.
On the women’s side, Katie Ledecky has the potential for a historic meet. The 19 year old is second seed to Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom in the 200 freestyle, but is well ahead of the field in the 400 and 800 freestyles, events in which she holds the world record.
Sjostrom holds the world record in the 100 butterfly, and as the top seed will aim for gold in the event where she finished fourth in 2012. She is also seeded fourth in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Australian Cate Campbell is expected to be another star of the Games. She sits just outside the 2009 world record with her top seeded 50 freestyle and also holds the first seed in the 100 freestyle. Sister Bronte enters the Games third in the 50 and second in the 100.
Katinka Hosszu is known for her demanding event schedules. The Hungarian is attacking another aggressive lineup in Rio with the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. She leads the way in both IMs, and her lowest rank comes with her 11th seed in the 200 butterfly.
