Wolfpack Secures Fifth 2022 Verbal Commitment from Futures 200m Back Runner-Up JT Ewing
NEW COMMIT: NC State has picked up their fifth verbal commitment for their growing Class of 2026 from Falls Church, Va. native and U.S. Open qualifier JT Ewing.
He will join Kyle Ponsler, Michael Cotter, Lance Norris, and Ryan Weaver in Raleigh in the fall of 2022, suiting up for an NC State team that won their sixth-straight ACC Championship title in 2020.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to NC State University. I’d like to thank everyone that supported me throughout this process and I’m excited for the future. ♦️ ?”
A talented backstroker and butterflyer, Ewing does his club swimming with The Fish and most recently raced to second place in the 100 back at the Potomac Valley Championships in March. At the Toyota U.S. Open in December, he recorded three best times and finaled in the 200m back.
In summer 2019, he won five gold medals at the Potomac Valley LCM 13&O Championships. He then went on to have a breakout meet at Geneva Futures, grabbing silver in the 200m back and taking fifth in the 100m back.
At 14 years old, his time of 2:05.32 in the 200m back in Geneva moved him to No. 11 on the all-time rankings for boys’ 13-14.
His best times include:
- 50 back – 23.54
- 100 back – 49.57
- 200 back – 1:47.90
- 100 fly – 50.32
- 200 fly – 1:52.16
Currently a junior at Gonzaga College High School, Ewing is already a four-time Washington Metropolitan Prep School League Championship finalist. He placed third in the 100 back and 11th in the 100 fly as a sophomore while taking third and sixth, respectively, in those events during his rookie season.
The USA Swimming Scholastic ALl-American was also the 100 back runner-up and finished third in the 200 free at the 2020 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championships after placing first in the 100 back and third in the 100 fly in 2019.
