Wisconsin Badgers Land Big 2022 Verbal from Junior National Finalist Blair Stoneburg
NEW COMMIT: Jensen Beach, Fla. native Blair Stoneburg will head to the University of Wisconsin in the fall of 2022 after giving her verbal commitment to the Badgers as a member of their Class of 2026.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic pursuits at the University of Wisconsin-Madison!! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me through this process. I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing team and university! Go Badgers!”
Stoneburg, who owns several U.S. Open and Summer National cuts, does her club swimming with Treasure Coast Aquatics. At Juniors East in December, she finished fifth in the 500 free, ninth in the 200 free, 12th in both the 50 free and 100 free, and 14th in the 200 fly.
Last summer, she posted a pair of top-10 finishes at Gainesville Sectionals before going on to record six best times at Greensboro Futures where she had five top-8 finishes. Stoneburg collected bronze medals in the 100m free and 200m free in Greensboro as well.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.09
- 100 free – 49.35
- 200 free – 1:45.64
- 500 free – 4:40.99
- 1650 free – 16:14.60
- 100 fly – 53.78
- 200 fly – 1:59.66
Currently a junior at Jensen Beach High School, Stoneburg is already a four-time Florida State Championship finalist. She won both the 100 fly and 200 free as a sophomore at the 2A meet while taking first in the 100 free and second in the 200 free during her freshman season at the 3A meet.
She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts in the pool and in the classroom.
Stoneburg is a huge pickup for the Badgers as she would’ve been their fastest 500 freestyler and miler last season – and she still has two years to go before arriving in Madison. She would’ve scored in the top-8 of the 200/500/1650 free as well as in the B-final of the 100 fly/100 free and C-final of the 200 fly at the 2020 Big Ten Championships.
She also would’ve qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 500 free and 1650 free in 2020.
