Wingate University Scores First Class of 2026 Verbal from Rappahannock Y’s Annika Luce
NEW COMMIT: Wingate University has received their first verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Futures qualifier Annika Luce of Woodford, Va.
She is the Bulldogs’ first public verbal commitment for the Class of 2026.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swim career at Wingate University! I want to thank my Family, Coaches and Friends who supported me along this journey. #gobulldogs #WUswim”
Luce does her club swimming with Rappahannock Y Swim Team and most recently earned five best times at Virginia Seniors in March where she placed 15th in the 200 breast and 16th in the 100 breast.
Last summer, she registered five personal bests at Virginia LCM Seniors before going on to have a strong showing at Eastern Senior Zones.
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:05.65
- 200 breast – 2:24.61
- 200 IM – 2:12.42
- 400 IM – 4:44.23
Currently a junior at Fredericksburg Academy, Luce is already a three-time Virginia Independent Schools State Championship finalist. She finished third in the 100 breast and sixth in the 200 IM as a sophomore while taking 12th in the former event during her freshman season.
Even with just under two years to go before arriving at Wingate in the fall of 2022, Luce will add valuable both depth both individually and on medley relays. Under head coach Kirk Sanocki, the Bulldogs finished fourth at the 2020 Bluegrass Mountain Championships and placed fifth at the NCAA DII Championships before the meet was cut short due to COVID-19.
