William and Mary Scores Verbal Commitment From Sonora Baker
NEW COMMITS: Sonora Baker, a freestyler and backstroker from Mechancisville, Virginia has verbally committed to swim for the College of William and Mary beginning in the 2018-2019 season. She joins Rebecca Rogers in the Tribe Women’s Class of 2022.
A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Baker swims for Poseidon Swimming, home of two other verbal commitments for the Class of 2018: South Carolina bound Phil Costin and Garrison Johnson. Baker is a senior at Atlee High School.
She told Swimming World,
“William & Mary is an incredible school and I know it will adequately prepare me for life after college. The coaches are great, the team is awesome, and the training style is a great fit for me. I cannot wait to be a part of The Tribe for the next four years!”
Her top times include:
- 50 Back 26.53
- 100 Back 55.83
- 200 Back 2:00.19
- 100 Fly 56.49
- 50 Free 23.75
- 100 Free 51.80
- 200 Free 1:52.41
No matter what she swims, Baker will score big points for the defending Colonial Athletic Association Conference Champions. Her lifetime bests would have put her in the A final of the 200 and 100 backstrokes at last year’s meet. She would have also been a 50, 100, and 200 freestyle B finalist.
Dear me!
