NEW COMMIT: West Virginia University has earned their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season from Chesapeake, Va. native and high school junior Abby Reardon.

Reardon swims year-round with Tide Swimming and owns a trio of Winter Junior standards. She most recently competed at the TYR Blizzard Blitz in December where she won five events and achieved five lifetime bests. Reardon placed tenth in the 200m back and 12th in the 400m free at Cary Futures to conclude her long course season after taking fourth in both the 200m/1500m free at Virginia LCM Seniors. She also was the 100 back runner-up at Christiansburg Speedo Sectionals and grabbed the bronze in that event at Virginia SCY Seniors last March.

While representing Western Branch High School, Reardon raced to fourth in the 100 back and seventh in the 200 free during her sophomore season after finishing fourth and sixth, respectively, in those events as a freshman at the Virginia 6A State Championships. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming career at West Virginia University!! I could not have gotten here today without all of the support I receive daily from my coaches, my friends, my family and my teammates. Thank you to everyone who has made me who I am today, I can not truly thank you all enough. I cannot wait to train with such a great team and under an amazing coaching staff. Go Mountaineers!!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 55.08
  • 200 back – 2:01.12
  • 50 free – 23.92
  • 100 free – 51.92
  • 200 free – 1:49.69
  • 500 free – 4:57.02

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before arrive in Morgantown, Reardon would’ve scored in the B-final of both backstroke events and the 200 free as well as the C-final of the 500 free at the 2018 Big 12 Championships where WVU finished second overall in the team standings.
