Washington State University Adds Mackenzie Duarte to 2017-18 Roster
Mackenzie Duarte signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Washington State swimming team next season, head coach Tom Jager announced Tuesday.
Duarte is out of Alhambra High School in Martinez, Calif. She has earned four varsity letters in swimming, under coach Jenna Da Sie. As a junior, Duarte placed 26th in the 100 breaststroke at the 2016 California CIF State Swimming & Diving Championships. Duarte set the school record in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.04) and the 200 IM (2:08.94) her junior year. Duarte was a Diablo Foothill Athletic League Honorable Mention selection her sophomore and junior years. Her senior season is currently underway.
“We are excited to have Mackenzie join the Cougar swim team,” Jager said. “She has a great attitude and fits in with our team. Mackenzie will help make our team stronger, and I am looking forward to her contributions.”
Hailing from Martinez, Calif., Duarte began swimming for Orinda Aquatics (Club) her sophomore year under coach Ronnie Heidary. As a member of the Junior National team, she competed at the 2015 and 2016 Junior Nationals in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.
