Washington State Gets First 2020 Verbal from In-State Standout Hailey Grotte
NEW COMMIT: Washington State University has earned their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from in-state sprinter Hailey Grotte of Battle Ground, Wash.
Grotte swims year-round with Northwest Blue Crush Aquatic Club and most recently earned 100% best times at Federal Way Speedo Sectionals where her highest finish was a 20th-place showing in the 50 free. She earned bronze in the 100 free at Oregon Seniors in March and finaled twice at Mount Hood Speedo Sectionals this past summer.
Also competing for La Center High School, Grotte is a six-time Washington 2A State Championship finalist. She earned silver in the 50/100 free combo during both her sophomore and junior seasons after finishing fifth in the 100 free and seventh in the 100 breast during her rookie campaign.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swim career at Washington State after high school. A big thank you to all my coaches, teammates and family who helped me along the way!”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.64
- 100 free – 51.87
- 200 free – 1:53.16
When she suits up for the Cougars as a member of the class of 2024, Grotte will add valuable sprint depth both individually and on relays. Although she’s not in scoring range just yet at the Pac-12 Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season with over a year to go before arriving at Washington State.
