Virginia Tech Opens Up 2023 Recruiting Class with Bolles’ Kate Anderson
NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has begun developing its women’s class of 2027, scoring a verbal commitment from Bolles School junior Kate Anderson.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am extremely excited to continue my swimming career at Virginia Tech. I would like to thank my friends, family, and my coaches for supporting me through this process. I would also like to thank Coach Sergio and the Hokie team for welcoming me into the Hokie family. I can’t wait to be a Hokie!! GO HOKIES!!!!”
Anderson swims for high school powerhouse the Bolles School Sharks. At the 2021 FHSAA 1A State Championships, she swam to a pair of ninth place finishes in the 200 free (1:50.79) and 500 free (5:00.51).
Her best times in yards include:
- 200 free – 1:50.79
- 500 free – 4:55.02
- 1650 free – 17:08.36
- 100 breast – 1:05.85
- 200 breast – 2:22.53
The Hokies did not have much depth in the distance freestyle department last season, and with Honorable Mention All-American Reka Gyorgy exhausting her eligibility, in addition to the team not bringing in any pure distance swimmers, Anderson’s commitment is the first step in rebuilding that area for the Sergio Lopez-led squad.
While she currently does not have any times that would score at the ACC Championships, with a strong senior season, she could provide some pivotal points for a Virginia Tech team looking to crack into the top half of the ACC by the time she is a freshman.
