Virginia Tech Lands Commitment from Spain’s Luis Domínguez for Fall 2021

NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has added a new commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Luis Domínguez of Spain.
He will join Mitchell Stroud, Hayden Jay, Joseph Hong, Luan Grobbelaar and Ben Eckerson in Blacksburg as members of the Hokies’ class of 2025.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m extremely excited to finally announce my verbal commitment to University of Virginia Tech. I would like to thank all my family, friends, coaches and teammates who have supported me throughout this years! I can’t wait to be there and be part of the Hokie family!!️?” (sic)
Domínguez trains year-round with E.M. El Olivar and earned six best times at the Spanish Sort Course National Championships back in November. In July 2020, he was selected by the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation to compete at the Meeting de Loule. There, his top finish was a ninth-place showing in the 50m free.
His best times include (SCM/LCM):
- 50 free 23.0 / 23.3
- 100 free 49.1 / 50.4
- 200 free 1.48.1 / 1:50.6
- 400 free 3.50.8 / 4:00.0
- 800 free 8.01.1
- 1500 free 15.11.2
- 100 IM 55.6
- 200 IM 2.01.5 / 2:06.6

Domínguez will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when he arrives in Blacksburg this upcoming fall. His best time (converted to yards) would’ve ranked No. 2 in both the 100 and 500 free, while he would be No. 4 in the 200 free.
Under head coach Sergio Lopez, the Hokies finished third overall in the team standings at the 2021 ACC Championships.
