Virginia Tech Hokies Add Commitment From Tanish Mathew of Dubai
NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has received a new addition to its 2022-23 lineup from Tanish Mathew of Dubai.
He will arrive in Blacksburg as a member of the Hokies’ Class of 2026 along with William Hayon, Carl Bloebaum, Landon Gentry, Aiken Do and Mitchell Stroud.
He told Swimming World:
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Virginia Tech!! I want to thank my parents, my coach and my friends for supporting me and helping me become the person I am today. I can’t wait to start this new chapter….GO HOKIES!!”
Mathew, who trains with Aqua Nation Sports Academy, most recently raced four events at the Glenmark Senior National Championships in October. Back in February 2020, he won three races at the Middle East Open and Junior Championships.
In 2019, he raced all three butterfly events at the FINA World Junior Championships.
In LCM, his best times include:
- 100m free – 51.75
- 200m free – 1:51.17
- 100m fly – 55.57
- 200m fly – 2:02.71
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 100 free – 45.17
- 200 free – 1:37.27
- 100 fly – 48.79
- 200 fly – 1:47.49
He currently attends The Indian High School Dubai.
