Virginia Gets Verbal for 2020 From Dayton Raiders’ Jean-Pierre Khouzam
NEW COMMIT: Virginia has picked up a verbal commitment from Beavership Township, Ohio’s Jean-Pierre Khouzam who will arrive in Charlottesville in the fall of 2020.
A U.S. Open qualifier in the 100 fly, Khouzam swims year-round with Dayton Raiders and recently attended the National Select Camp in Colorado Springs. He achieved 100% best times at Junior Nationals this summer with his highest finish being a fourth-place showing in the 200m fly after qualifying first during prelims. He recorded a pair of lifetime bests at Juniors East last winter and was the 100 fly runner-up at the Southern Premier Invitational.
Also swimming for St. Xavier High School, Khouzam is a three-time Ohio State Championship finalist and helped his team win their tenth-straight OHSAA team title last season. He finished second in the 100 fly and eighth in the 200 free and contributed to two winning relays during his sophomore campaign. The NISCA All-American finished fifth in the 100 fly as a freshman.
He told Swimming World:
“I really fit in with the team and the coaches are great. The combination of strong academics and outstanding athletics lays a foundation that challenges me to achieve my best potential.”
His best times include:
- 50 fly – 23.34
- 100 fly – 47.76
- 200 fly – 1:48.28
- 100 free – 45.66
- 200 free – 1:39.40
- 100 back – 50.98
- 200 back – 1:51.09
Even with two years to go before suiting up for Virginia at the start of the 2020-21 season, Khouzam’s best 200 fly time would’ve scored in the C-final of the 2018 ACC Championships. He will add valuable depth to the Cavaliers’ lineup following the graduation of their top returning butterflyers and will have three years of overlap with an incredibly strong incoming class of 2023.
