Virginia Gets Verbal Commit From Kentucky State Record Holder Sophie Skinner
NEW COMMIT: Sophie Skinner has given her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Virginia beginning in the fall of 2018. She swims for the Northern Kentucky Clippers where she is an IMer with strengths in backstroke and freestyle events. Skinner is a rising senior at Notre Dame Academy.
At the 2017 Kentucky High School state championships Skinner picked up her third state title in the 100 freestyle with a 49.89, just a tenth off her state record 49.79 she set in 2015. She also earned bronze in the 200 freestyle and was on two relays for Notre Dame. The team’s 400 freestyle relay finished second while the 200 freestyle relay touched fifth.
Skinner told Swimming World,
“I chose UVA because it is the perfect combination of great academics along with even better swimming. When I visited the university I was completely drawn in by the team dynamics, the coaching staff, and the amazing campus. Go hoos!”
Her top times are:
- 50 Back 25.66
- 100 Back 55.44
- 200 Back 1:56.59
- 100 Free 49.79
- 200 Free 1:47.00
- 200 IM 2:00.54
- 400 IM 4:14.81
At the University of Virginia, Skinner should be an immediate conference point scorer. Her best 200 backstroke, 200 freestyle, and 400 IM times would have placed her in this year’s B final at the ACC Championships. In the 200 IM she would have been a C finalist.
WHY report on “verbal” commitments; shouldn’t you WAIT until agreements are SIGNED?
You can’t actually sign a letter of intent until signing week in November.
