Virginia Begins Class of 2025 Recruiting with Verbal from Georgia State Champion Jack Aikins
NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has earned their first verbal commitment for the class of 2025. Jack Aikins of Cumming, Ga., announced his verbal to the Hoos via Instagram.
Aikins does his club swimming with SwimAtlanta and owns a pair of Olympic Trials cuts with four additional U.S. Open standards. This past summer, he earned six best times at Georgia LCM Seniors where he earned silvers in the 50m free and 200m back and bronze in the 100m back. Last winter, he raced four events at Juniors East before going on to register six top-15 finishes at Georgia SCY Seniors.
A current junior at West Forsyth High School, Aikins is a four-time Georgia 6A/7A State Championship finalist. He won the 50 free and took third in the 100 free as a sophomore after placing sixth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 back during his freshman season.
In SCY, his best times include:
- 100 back – 50.27
- 200 back – 1:46.65
- 50 free – 20.34
- 100 free – 45.11
- 200 free – 1:39.35
- 200 IM – 1:50.81
In LCM, his best times include:
- 100m back – 56.21 (Olympic Trials cut)
- 200m back – 2:02.01 (Olympic Trials cut)
- 50m free – 23.44
- 100m free – 52.24
- 200m free – 1:53.03
- 200m IM – 2:08.94
Aikins will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when he arrives in Charlottesville at the start of the 2021-22 season. He would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 back at the 2019 ACC Championships and is just shy of scoring range in his other top events. He still has well over a year to go before getting to college, and will surely look to carry his recent long course success over into the upcoming short course season.
