Virginia 6A State Finalist Abby Daniel Gives Akron First 2021 Verbal Commitment
NEW COMMIT: The University of Akron has earned their first early verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Bristow, Va. native Abby Daniel.
Daniel, who owns four Junior National standards, swims year-round with Occoquan Swimming and most recently won the 50m fly with five additional top-5 finishes at TYR LCM Junior Nationals this past summer after placing eighth in the 100m fly at Potomac Valley LCM Seniors. Last winter, she earned a pair of best times at Juniors East before going on to grab gold in the 200 fly as well as silver in the 100 fly and 200 IM at TYR SCY Junior Nationals.
A current junior at Patriot High School, Daniel is already a four-time Virginia 6A State Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished third in the 100 fly and seventh in the 200 IM during her sophomore season while placing seventh in both the 100 breast and 200 IM as a freshman.
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 29.56
- 100 breast – 1:04.31
- 200 breast – 2:18.06
- 100 fly – 55.16
- 200 fly – 2:01.86
- 200 IM – 2:02.38
- 400 IM – 4:26.22
Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Zips as a member of the class of 2025, Daniel will add valuable depth and will make an immediate impact. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 IM, 100 fly, and 200 fly at the 2019 MAC Championships where Akron earned the team title.
