After the conclusion of the 800 free relays on night one at Women’s NCAAs, Swimming World spoke with several of the highlight performers as well as Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle.
Bauerle explained his strategy for the relay and evaluated his swimmers’ efforts. He also discussed how his team will approach the remainder of the meet despite looking like underdogs in the points race and explained what he looks for in an impressive performance.
Bauerle’s leadoff leg – Hali Flickinger – and anchor – Brittany MacLean – discussed their performances, where Flickinger touched first ahead of Leah Smith and others on the leadoff leg and MacLean had the top anchor split. The pair explained the emotions of their NCAA title and discussed their plans for Thursday’s 500 free. MacLean also chronicled her road back from an injury-plagued junior season.
Stanford freshman Ella Eastin recorded an impressive 1:42.18 split on the Cardinal’s relay, and she spoke afterwards about the impressive swim and also recapped her breakout performance at the Pac-12 championships last month. She also previewed Thursday’s race in the 200 IM, which will also feature Kathleen Baker and Madisyn Cox.
