(Video Interview) Missy Franklin Confident Prior to Olympic Trials
Editorial Coverage provided by
Four years after making the Olympic team for the first time—and then going on to win four gold medals in London—Missy Franklin returned to Omaha to find her face plastered on a door to the arena. Franklin has struggled in recent years, most notably when back spasms struck at the Pan Pacific Championships in 2014, and to a lesser extent at last summer’s World Championships, but she expressed a lot of confidence heading into these Trials.
Franklin discussed where that confidence comes from and what has changed in her training with Todd Schmitz over the years. She also explained how leaving Cal was one of the biggest sacrifices she had to make for her swimming, how she remains so upbeat despite her struggles and what she has done to distract herself since arriving in Omaha.
