Katie Meili made her first Olympic team with a huge swim in the women’s 100 breast Tuesday night. She touched in 1:06.07, the fourth-fastest time in the world for 2016. It marked Meili’s first time making an Olympic team or even a senior national team for the United States.
After the swim, Meili spoke with Swimming World about her emotions and how it felt embracing her teammates after the biggest breakthrough of her career. Meili then discussed the three years since graduating from Columbia that she has spent as a pro swimmer training in Charlotte and what it meant for all that hard work to pay off in the one race she had been focusing on the whole time.
