MESA, Arizona, April 24. KATIE Ledecky was on a mission in tonight’s 400 freestyle final, and the result was a tie for the fastest time in the world in the event.
In this video interview, she talks about the race strategy, which included not overdoing the kick on the first 100 meters. She said she wasn’t aware of the time posted by Spain’s Mireia Belmonte earlier this month to lead the world rankings, so she was a bit surprised by the fact that she swam the same time as Belmonte tonight.
She also talked about mixing up her training to allow her to swim the 100 free and 400 free so well today, which she says makes her “ready for anything.”
