Following his American Record in the 100 fly, Joseph Schooling talked with David Rieder about his initial disappointment in just missing breaking the 44-second barrier, and the transition from that disappointment to his happiness in breaking the record. He also discusses his race strategy, as well as his reaction to Townley Haas’s incredible 200 free. Schooling discusses how the endless energy of this year’s freshman has pushed him in his training, and his goals for the upcoming months, particularly his hatred and the motivation that comes from being described as an underdog.
